Strategy Pt. 1: "Small Unit Tactics"

Factors in selecting an ambush site include;
  • Probable size and composition of the enemy force that is to be ambushed.
  • Likely formations the enemy may use and his reinforcement capability.
  • Terrain along the route that probides unobserved avenues of approach and withdrawal.
  • Timing of the ambush.
  • Whether it will be a day or night ambush.
  • Types of weapons to be employed in the assault.
  • Fields of fire.

NOTE: The terrain at the size should help funnel the enemy into the kill zone and offer natural obstacles that will restrict enemy maneuver. There should be a minimal number of possible enemy approach routes into the objective area. The terrain should offer multiple avenues of approach and withdrawal for the attacking force.
